- ELECTRICAL INSPECTION, TESTING
AND CERTIFICATION
- Periodic Inspections
Regulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 requires
that:
As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be
maintained so as to prevent, so far as is practicable, such danger.
Periodic inspection and testing is necessary as all electrical
installations deteriorate due to a number of factors, such as
damage, wear and tear, corrosion, electrical loading, ageing and
environmental influences. The purpose of periodic inspection and
testing is to provide for the safety of persons against the effects
of electric shock and burns; protection against damage to property
by fire and heat arising from an installation defect; confirmation
that the installation is not damaged or deteriorated so as to
impair safety; the identification of installation defects and
non-compliance with the requirements of the Regulations which
may give rise to danger. On completion of a periodic inspection
a Periodic Report for an Electrical Installation will be issued.
Portable Appliance Testing
A portable appliance is generally, equipment that has a lead
and plug and which is normally moved around, or can be moved,
from place to place. In order to reduce the risk of injury caused
by a faulty appliance, it is necessary for the appliance to be
inspected and tested by a competent person. On completion of the
portable appliance testing, we will issue a fully indexed catalogue,
containing a single page certificate per appliance tested.
